Tapping the tank

First poker related post woot...

Anyhow, I played tonight, and have to let my frustration out about a poker term called tapping the tank. For those who dont know, tapping the tank is when you or someone else constantly berates another player for their play at the table, generally after copping a bad beat, or doing anything in general to make a poor player uncomfortable at the table. This of course could lead to a not very good player leaving the table, which common sense would think is a bad thing... Imagine playing golf for $50 a hole and since someone has pissed off the bad players the only people who will take you on are Tiger Woods and Phil Mickleson... Not a good idea.

So thats what grinded my gears today, two separate people left after receiveing some choice abuse from certain players. The fact that some people, who consider themselves rather excellent poker players when they actually arent, think that playing poker against people that have inferior abilitys to their's is a bad think. For people who play poker, a game of skill and logic, its baffling...

So the trip report. It was a breakeven session, the most enjoyable part of which was sitting next to a fish whos name I dont know, but for the purpose of this post we will call Silvio, because he looked a bit like Silvio Berlusconi.

So the session was going fine until a player on my right left for the night. This opened up a spot next to me and I was going to slide into it when Silvio, from the other side of the table begins talking rather loudly in broken Italian/English then pointed in my direction wtih the phrase "... the boy over their..." My first thought was that I had pissed him off enough to leave by cracking his aces with 68 of hearts (but it was s00ted). Nope, he wants to sit on my right i.e I have the jesus seat. For those who dont understand some basic strategy, having weak players on your right is a very good thing. The seat which puts the worst player at the table on your right is the jesus seat... After this I run sick hot and take a fair bit of money from old Silvio, which is a good thing. Its to such an extent that when he open raises and I fold, he exclaims "Yes, now I can win a hand, I beat everyone except you..." He took that hand down as well....

In all, its was my first session back at Burswood in a long time, and quite enjoyable. Had I not bubbled a few pokerstars tournaments... maybe I would be enjoying poker more at the moment if it wasnt for that...

An introduction

To anyone that is reading this, hello. My name is Ashley and this is hopefully going to be a blog of my life playing poker in Perth, Australia at Burswood Casino amongst many other places, as well as absolutely useless ramblings about my other various life going-ons.

Anyway, the background story. Began playing poker a few years ago, loved the game and have always had a sound knowledge at basic problem solving. Since being introduced to pub poker I have taken the game even more seriously and now play semi-regularly live at Burswood Casino in usually the 10/20 fixed limit and 2/3 and 5/5 NLHE. Over the last 18 months I have had relatively excellent results, so have decided to pursue this not as anything resembling a career, but hopefully a way to earn myself a little extra cash to get through university. Part of keeping a record of my efforts to play poker a bit more seriously include having this blog... Previous records were kept at the sports forum BigFooty.

So effectively cliffnotes...
  • This is my new blog...
  • [x] poker related
  • [x]Probably boring for 99% of the population
  • [x]Probably dead within the month...
So yeah, here goes...
